What's On My iPod - 1st Installment

Not that any of you care - but I'm going to do a recurring series on this blog called What's On My iPod - basically what I'm listening to on repeat this week with my thoughts on the album(s)

Astral Doors - Evil Is Forever
-It took me a long time to even listen to this band after I got this album on my iPod. I listened to like two songs that were, "eh." One day on the subway I decided, let me give this another try, and listened to Lionheart...and damn can this dude sing. I think it's my favorite track on the album, and if you like Dio, you should check these guys out. Warning: They have a tendency to do that really pseudo-homosexual power metal stuff.

Lamb of God - Wrath
-When I heard the single Contractor that was release/leaked/whatever, I thought, holy shit, this is awesome. LoG have decided to go back to their roots and just produce really catchy thrash...then I heard Set to Fail, and my thoughts were, what the fuck?? It just seemed so lame, Pantera-esque, Southern hillbilly metal garbage. So I wrote it off and didn't bother to get the album when it came out. Thankfully, my brother did, and surprised me in the car one day by just popping the CD in and saying - "Guess who this is." And the intro was so NOT LoG that I couldn't tell. When the 2nd track kicked it, my face did one of these: 0_0 (that's a whoa! face for those of you who can't see ascii smileys). After listening to the whole album a million times now, I have to say, it's really well done, better than Sacrament, probably better than Ashes, not necessarily better than As The Palaces Burn. Listen to the last track, Reclamation, and tell me it isn't fuckin sweet.

Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja
-Awesome Scandinavia Folky/Black Metal. It doesn't get any better than this. I can't understand a word they're saying, but the album makes me feel like I'm walking through the snow covered forests of Finland, dressed in pelts, weilding an ax, looking for trolls. Check it out on a cloudy day next to the fire with a cup of coffee, you'll really enjoy it.
